I am downsizing my basement and my life, and getting rid of several items that have been laying around for years in some cases. Cameras, electronics, musical instruments, stereo equipment-- it's all got to move out so I can get some space back (translation: the rest of the family needs to store their stuff too.). Whatever, some great things will be going on the auction block, so watch this space for details.Now up is my MARTIN COMMITTEE...CORNET! Just look at the prices the Committee Trumpets fetch! Expensive, right? Well, do what I did-- go for the same Martin sound that Miles Davis couldn't do without, in something that plays the same but has a different name (and a different bore too-- a trumpet is cylindrical until its bell flare, a cornet is more conical, with increasing tubing sizes through its length. This gives the cornet a mellower sound-- if a flugelhorn is halfway between a trumpet and a french horn, the cornet is not quite halfway between a trumpet and a flugelhorn. But I digress...). When I got this horn it was a little banged up, with the bell pointing slightly downward. I had the horn cleaned and the bell bend fixed, and it plays smoothly and well in all registers.
