PLEASE ALLOW TIME FOR THE MANY LARGE PHOTOS TO LOAD THROUGHOUT Stunning Gents Vintage 1949 Waltham Sculptured Watch Here we have a very nice gents Waltham watch which dates back to 1949. Through serial number I can confirm it was made in July 1949 to be exact. It is fully signed by Waltham on the case, dial and movement and is in very good condition. It is fully working and keeping good time on the original, high calibre movement and comes complete with leather band. This model is best noted for is unique, angled case and its super dial. The original Waltham signed case is a beauty. It is a great example of a 1940's watch which has an elegant tanq design with fancy sides which angle up at each end and arch in the centre. The ends have a double angled pitched style and have the fancy sweeping lugs in each corner. The bezel is a rich 10k rolled gold and the back is stainless. It shows up very well with only a little rub to the edge points. The inside of the back holds the Waltham signature and other case details. The case measures a long 38mm x 22mm inc lug s. The Waltham signed dial is again in excellent condition. It is a silver/white with a black outer minute chapter and a set of raised gold Arabic style deco numbers at the hour positions which are very clean and bright. The 6 position has a neat sub second dial with a deep set round centre and its own black markings. It is signed "WALTHAM" below the 12. The domed lucite crystal is also in top condition. The watch is running on the original Waltham signed 750-B movement. This is the high grade 17j model which was factory adjusted to 4 positions for better accuracy. It is fully working and keeping good time. It comes complete with a black leather band. We are able to date this watch to the exact month using an original Waltham movement and serial book, known in the trade as the "Grey Book" produced in 1954 by Waltham.Vintage Watches make great gifts for occasions such as Weddings, Anniversaries, Birthdays and Christmas. WALTHAM HISTORY In 1850, Roxbury, Massachusetts, David Davis, Edward Howard and Aaron Lufki Dennison formed together the company that would later become the American Waltham Watch Company . The revolutionary business plan was to manufacture the movement parts so precisely that they would become fully interchangeable. The company was renamed "Boston Watch Company" in September 1853. A new factory was built in Waltham, Massachusetts, on the banks of the Charles River, which grew over the years to its present size. In October 1854 the company moved into the new factory. The next movements manufactured (1001-5000) were marked "Dennison, Howard, & Davis", "P.S.Bartlett", and "C.T. Parker". The company had financial difficulties and Edward Howard left to form E. Howard & Co. Upon bankruptcy, the company was sold at auction to Royal E. Robbins, who reorganised it under the new name "Appleton Tracy & Co" in May 1857. Bearing this name, the next movements produced, Waltham Model 1857, were numbered 5001 to 14,000. Also the "C.T. Parker" was introduced as 1857 model: 399 units were made. Also 598 chronometers were manufactured. January 1853 saw the introduction of the P.S. Bartlett watch. The "Waltham Improvement Co." merged in January 1859 with the "Appleton, Tracy & Co." forming the American Waltham Watch Company (AWWCo). In 1860, as President Abraham Lincoln was elected, the country was in Civil War. Production ground to a halt. However, the company decided to downsize to the lowest possible level to keep the factory open. It worked: Upon his Gettysburg Address, President Lincoln became the proud owner of a Waltham watch: Model 1857, Grade Wm Ellery, serial number no 67613.
