An avowed radical , William Gropper (1897-1977) was an American artist, illustrator, cartoonist, painter and muralist who is perhaps best known for his contributions to political causes and publications which held his attention. For your consideration is this 1953 First Edition portfolio of 10 color lithographs by Gropper featuring characters from American Folklore , the figures illustrated being as follows: - Paul Bunyan, - Davy Crockett, - Joe Magarac, - Mike Fink, - Finn Mac Cool, - The Headless Horseman, - Johnny Appleseed, - John Brown, - John Henry, - Rip Van Winkle. Condition notes: Very good. This portfolio of vintage lithographs, measuring 17 ½ inches by 11 ½ inches, shows moderate surface wear to the folder; the lithographs themselves are in very good condition.
