A truly ONE OF A KIND unique piece. 1954 Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum souvenir book that has been personalized by Sid Keener (Director of the Hall of Fame at that time) to Boston Doves and Braves pitcher Al Mattern. Mr. Mattern pitched for Boston of the National League from 1908 to 1912. He also pitched in the minors for Newark, Montreal, Rochester, Trenton and Holyoke. The inscription by Mr. Keener recounts how Al Mattern had defeated Christy Mathewson, Three Finger Brown and other Hall of Famers. Given to Mr. Mattern on the occasion of a visit to the Hall of Fame in 1955. The West Rush N. Y. (near Rochester) native died three years later in 1958 at the age of 72. The inscription is dated on St. Valentines Day February 14, 1955. The book itself is in very nice shape with all pages firmly attached, no additional writing except the inscription and clear, sharp photos. Only flaw is creasing on the cover as the photos will show. A very unique piece for any Boston National League fan! Inquiries welcome.
