TWA DC-9 Made in japan in the 1960`s by Modern toys, is this battery operated DC-9 TWA jet aircraft. Measures 16.5 inches long and has a wing span of 14 inches and is about 5.5 inches tall. With the flip of the switch, (on the bottom) the door opens, the stairs lower and waiting at the top of the stairs is the flight attendant. The stairs then raise back into the jet and the door snaps shut, the jet then roars off under the power of the motor driven front wheels only to stop and repeat the process again! Nicely detailed tinplate in TWA colors but it incorporates plastic undersides and horizontal tail stabilizers. Looks like there were lights in the twin jet engines that most likely light up during the take-off, but no longer work. there is also some light fade to the left wing and there is bits of glue to the edges of the plastic where the engines are joined to the fuselage. The overall appearance is great and it displays well. Would make a fine addition to any TWA, Douglas DC-9, aviation or battery operated toy collection.
