Folks, offered is the first of several items I will be offering on EBay relating to the US Navy Ship Harwood. This is a heavy (about 5lbs ) metal plaque on wood measuring 10'' x 13," commemorating the Harwood. It is in excellent vintage collectible condition, and ready for entry into a collection of US Navy ship memorabilia. The letters "Mead (or Meud) EMU-MPA-MBA" are stenciled on the back of the plaque. Not sure what those mean, but during its service life the Harwood had many Mediterranean cruises, so it's possible that "EMU/MPA/MBA" is Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus/Master in Public Administration/Master of Business Administration. I checked the HARWOOD'S LIST OF SHIPMATES, and t was no listing for the name "Mead" or "Meud." The plaque bears no date, but all of my research (including a large photo I will put up on EBay later of Harwood at a Mediterranean port showing parked cars) leads me to believe that the plaque dates back to the 1960s or at the latest, very early 1970s. That seems to hold, especially as to the end date, because the historical information to follow suggests Harwood was no longer in the US Navy inventory as of late 1971.
