Dr. Nathan Ostich, a Los Angeles general practitioner, sits in the cockpit of the jet-powered car which he hopes to drive to a new world land speed record on Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats during the week of Aug. 6. The record, 394.1 miles an hour, is held by the late John Cobb of England. Ostich hopes to do better than 400. He left for Utah with the car today. Ostich made an unsuccessful try for the record in 1960, but has since made design changes in the car.Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches. Photo is dated 8-2-1962.
