This SMS Kennedy is in Gem condition with Black Mirrors which are clean and haze free, no spotting and nice frost on the Obverse, with the Reverse contrast just a shade lighter. Stunning and in 1965, the majority of SMS Business strike coins, did not have a black mirror but a the Obverse cameo contrast is white and dark satiny gray mirror. Now remember, as a Business strike, this coin was only struck once with the Die, unlike a proof which is struck twice with a much higher pressure used. This is the reason for the problems in finding these coins with any frost, especially the 1965, and the US Mint`s failure to do proper preparation with the Planchet and the Dies used, which they realized a little late, but improved upon this lack of detail with the 1966 and the 1967 SMS Kennedy halves. Many are bag marked, and are not in Gem condition, due to poor packaging by the Mint, which for the following 2 years of SMS Coins, they were packaged in a hard plastic case, which also kept the coins well protected from each other, and the other coins in open sets. Now remember. You can always buy the exact same issue in Brilliant with no frost, versus having the eye appeal that this coins frost gives you, for it is far and away 10 times nicer to look at than it`s unfrosted cousin.
