This is a historically important political item that reflects Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy" in the 1968 presidential campaign. It is a mailer that measures about 7" x 10 1/2" when unfolded, and it contains a message to voters in Florida from South Carolina U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond urging them to vote for Nixon. Its evident purpose was to pry voters away from conservative third-party presidential candidate George Wallace, and thus the language claiming that the election could be won only by Nixon or Democratic nominee Hubert Humphrey. The message worked, as Nixon took Florida with 40% of the vote.
