This is a "1971 IKE SILVER DOLLAR COIN". It's total weight is 24.59 grams, 40% pure silver and 60% copper. The total weight of pure silver is 9.89 grams or approx. 1/4 troy ounces. Its condition is uncirculated and comes encased in a plastic cover as part of the display booklet. The front shows an engraving "PRESIDENT DWIGHT EISENHOWER" The back engraving honors "Man's First Landing on The Moon, two years before." The Eisenhower dollar is a $1 coin issued by the United States government from 1971–1978. The Eisenhower dollar followed the Peace dollar after a lapse of 36 years in dollar coinage and is named for General of the Army and President Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower, who appears on the obverse. Both the obverse and the reverse of the coin were designed by Frank Gasparro. "Silver" dollars return: Beginning with the 1971 Eisenhower dollar, silver (albeit 40% silver) dollars were again a part of the American numismatic scene. Struck in Uncirculated and Proof formats, the 40% silver Ikes were made available to collectors through the U.S. Mint.This is a great coin and collectible.
