This auction is for reprints of original marketing materials issued by Paramount at various times in 1976. T is a Xerox copy of the 30 page summer 1976 Paramount Catalog offering Redfield dollars. T two copies of the original marketing letters one dated September 1976 and four pager dated October 1976, both signed by Max Humbert, Chairman of the Board, Paramount Coins. T is Paramount order form and two 11x17 color reprints of the original two sided Paramount wall poster. One side is all one poster; the other is fold item as the original folded down to 6x8 mailer. Sounds complicated but you understand when it arrives. The catalog which is available separately is amazing just to see the pricing then compared to what we see now. These items are a must have for the dedicated Redfield collector. I bought these for a lot of money a few weeks ago, cut it up the catalog reprints and properly (as best I could) rebound and printed it. No doubt others will follow my lead but in you get the fruit of my efforts shipped first class mail, large envelope. The catalog offers over 30 pages of coins and offerings. It includes a bonus page of my writing typos at no extra cost - the problem of thinking faster than you type. My writings are not unlike the following - historical and generously borrowed from many sources. The catalog itself is a treat. --- Enjoy - Nick The truth of the LaVere Redfield hoard of Silver Dollars varies by account. A fair representation follows. Please consider that Redfield dollars are in fact always marked as such by Paramount. This is confirmed in the Van Allen & Mallis Morgan and Peace Dollars 4th Edition (pages 403 to 407). I actively seek and collect Redfield and Paramount Dollars in the red and blue-black holders. My travels for work are extensive in the United States so I will seek out coins shops in idle time. The coins are very much like GSA dollars in the original holders, never dipped, wiped, whizzed or cleaned – just raw and simply delightful. That’s why they and GSA dollars command such a premium at market. Paramount Redfield dollars are unique in this day and time as they are virgin coins with awesome natural mint luster and in many cases a delightful peripheral tone from the cardboard holder. Prices may seem exorbitant – downright screwy since at the time Paramount slabbed these coins (starting a new craze adopted by PCGS and others) t was not as defined or rigorous grading as found today. Redfield and Paramount Dollars come in Red (MS 65) and Blue/Black (MS 60) sonically sealed holders. My first three Redfield dollars were naively sent to NGC for grading and slabbing. The dollars which were in MS65 Paramount holders came back MS 61-64. The resulting loss in value was astounding. T is intrinsic value to coin in the original Paramount holder, not unlike a Carson City dollar dated 1890 or 1891 in the GSA holder versus a slabbed 1890-cc in MS 63 from one of the major grading services. Don’t ever submit a Redfield for grading unless you like throwing money away – the exception is if you are sure to have as MS65 or better coin, and always request attribution to Redfield if you do slab. So how does one price a Redfield? First and foremost – always- always- buy the coin and not the holder. I am repeating that again: always- buy the coin and not the holder. A typical MS65 Paramount Redfield will likely grade out less than MS65 unless the coin is pristine with no bag marks and perfect fields. The best way to determine pricing is to review the market – for example, I like to check out past sales on eBay. Back to pricing – figure the grey sheet MS 65 price and back off that to about half between how you think your coin will grade out.
