Re-writing the NHL record book like no one before or after him, Wayne Gretzky also holds the record for appearances on hockey cards during the 1980s, his regular, all-star, trophy winner, record breaker, league leader, team leader, highlight and other specials - you know what we're talkin' about - adding up to an appropriate 99 cards here, with duplication present. Carrying the most weight generally are his regular issues, with a 1980-81 Topps #250 (VG (ST)) leading chronologically and joined by O-Pee-Chee and Topps cards from the following year. From '84-85 there are four OPCs (#243) and one Topps (#51), with a pair of OPC #120s from '85-86. The totals that we're talking about are for EX-or-better representatives - there may additional lower grade examples, including from years not mentioned. Two memorable '88-89 Topps cards (Wayne holding up his new Kings jersey) are notable, while the dozens of specials include four '80-81 OPC All-Star cards, a couple of Super Action and four others from '81-82 OPC and the classic '83-84 Oilers Highlight card picturing Wayne and buddy Mark Messier. It's a grab bag among the rest, vastly dominated by OPC entries, with doubles and triples and averaging VG-EX to EX. A very good to excellent opportunity for a Gretzky lover is what they all add up to.
