You are bidding on one Baluch war rug from Afghanistan . This specific rug is from the Zakini tribe in Farah province (see map photo below & green highlighted area of Farah province). The rug has a wool pile & wool foundation and measures approx. 43" X 82". It has a good quality weave with a clear design. The pile has been clipped low and this rug appears to have received a chemical wash (probably in Herat city) in order to soften the sometimes bright and unattractive blue and off green so often used in Zakini rugs from the Farah area. The rug has some irregularity in shape (see photos) and some areas of low pile (probably a result of being clipped low). This rug is likely from the early to mid 1990s. I bought this rug in western Afghanistan . The Zakini weave lots of different rug designs and often times incorporate designs from their non-Baluch neighbors to the north of Farah province. Cheaper knock off copies of Zakini rugs are made in Pakistan- from my observation these tend to be more course with a looser weave and lower quality wool and have more watered down and blurry designs- I'd suggest looking around ebay and online websites in order to compare the differences.
