This auction is for one "California Sesquicentennial Medallion", this is the first Medallion for the California 150 years of statehood in 2000, the medallion is called "Discovery", representing 150 years from the discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill in 1848, one side depicts the mill & shows James Marshall & John Sutter who share claim for the discovery, Northwest Territorial Mint certifies this medallion conforms to weight & measures indicated by specs, the designer is "Steven R. Lundberg, the reverse side is a rendition of the official California State Seal depicted in three demensional bas-relief...........Specifications.....999 Fine Silver, weight One Troy Ounce, Size 39mm Diameter {approx. 1-1/2" across}, Thickness 4.0mm....Strike: Proof, Medallion is Selectively plated with 24K Gold..........This medallion is encased in clear plastic and has never been opened, it is in it's original fine case w/original cardboard dust jacket, the original certificate of authenticity is included. we have owned this medallion since 1998...........
