This is for an antique mid to late 19th Century medical, surgical, electro-therapeutic vaginal rectal electrode. The electrode is attached to a galvanic or Farady battery to deliver current to the site to treat every conceivable disease associated with the sites anatomy in both men and women. Treatment included the management of prostate hypertrophy, prostate disease, impotence, growths, tumors, warts, nevi etc.. Electrical therapy was said to be a stimulant and tonic, be antiseptic, improve cellular metabolism, having a tranquilizing affect, dissolve and carry away toxins, improve nutrition and general health and much more. The electrode is approx. 9.25" (23.5cm) long. The 2" (5cm) long bulb shaped brass end has a very nice patina. The next 3.125" (8cm) length is insulated with polished hard rubber. There is a 0.5" ring connecting the electrode to a 3.75" (1.9cm) long engine turned wood handle with a beautiful patina. There are no chips, cracks, breaks or repairs to the hard rubber and wood handle. Minor wear scratches are commensurate with its age.The end of the handle has a round 0.25" diameter metal insert to connect it to the battery. It is substantial, weighing approx. 6 oz..
