This is for an antique mid to late 19th Century medical, surgical, electro-therapeutic comb electrode. The comb electrode is attached to a galvanic or Farady battery to deliver current to the scalp to treat every conceivable disease of the scalp and hair in both men and women. Treatment included the management of dandruff, hair loss, greying hair, follicular health, etc.. Electrical therapy was said to be a stimulant and tonic, be antiseptic, improve cellular metabolism, having a tranquilizing affect, dissolve and carry away toxins, improve nutrition and general health and much more. The electrode is 7.25" (18.4cm) long. The comb and shaft is made of brass that has a very nice patina. The brass end and the first two teeth are bent inwards. The handle is wooden without chips, cracks or repairs. The end of the handle has a round receptacle to connect it to the battery. It is as found and has not been cleaned or altered in any way. It is not marked by the maker. Overall, it is in very good condition. It is a fine addition to an electro-therapy kit and to a collection of medical, surgical, barber, electro-therapy and quack instruments. See images for condition. Questions are welcomed.
