2 Antique QUIMPER France Faience plates dated 1779 1769 This listing is for a great set of two antique Quimper France faience plates, hand painted and dated. The plate with the fox and the hen or rooster has the name "Antoine Renard" on the front and the date "1779". The plate with the horse kicking the dog (?) has the name "Nicolas Cheval" on the front and the date "1769". This plate has a chip on the back side along the scalloped edge; t is a photo in the listing. Each of the plates measure 9 ¼" diameter and have a maker's mark or artist's mark on the back, but I am unfamiliar with the mark; again, please see photos for further details. The plates also both have noticeable crazing or crackling and I encourage bidders to consider photos as an integral part of this listing, as I am not very knowledgeable about this particular style art pottery. I purchased these plates at an English shipment sale. Also, I am not trying to state that 1779 and 1769 are the years the plates were made. They could just have been painted with such dates, and are likely early 20th century, with origins somew in the north of France. It is always my goal to provide all factual information you might need to make your buying decisions and I encourage you to email me with any questions you might have prior to bidding.
