DESCRIPTION: On auction are 20 VINTAGE pieces of dinnerware and accessories made in ENGLAND by GRINDLEY. It is a CREAMPETAL design in a lovely pattern called DEVONSHIRE ROSE. T are lovely deep pink roses that are accented with blue flowers and green leaves on a cream background. T is a scalloped edge with a blue scalloped line decorating the upper edge. T is a double blue line of decoration connecting the lovely flowers. The area around the rim above the blue scalloped line has a raised design- it really is quite a lovely pattern. In my investigations, I found that these pieces were made by W. H. Grindley in Staffordshire, England. The sailboat ship mark indicates that these pieces were produced in the years 1936-1954. These lovely pieces are at least over 50 years - could be over 70 years old. The 20 pieces include: 8 DINNER PLATES (10 inches in diameter) - one plate has a flake/narrow chip on the underside of the rim. One plate has a "skip" on the blue lined trim. One plate has 2 areas of rough spots. These have what looks like a cluster of little pimples that are located on the low point of the scallop. 8 RIMMED CEREAL BOWLS (between 6 3/8" and 6 ½) - Some of the plates has some rough spots (like little clusters of pimples) - I would say that this is from manufacturing. It is really weird - but one of the bowls is missing the center design. One of the bowls has a little chip - actually it looks like a slice on the rim. Since it is a slice - it may be from the manufacturing. 1 ROUND PLATTER WITH CLOSED HANDLES (10 5/8" from handle to handle x 9 5/8") has definite crazing 1 OVAL PLATTER - 11" x 9 ¼" - has utensil marks 1 OVAL PLATTER - 11 ¾" X 10" - underside has a small roundish flake near the rim - it is discolored 1 OVAL PLATTER - 16" x 13 ½" - utensil marks CONDITION : These are vintage pieces (around 50-70 years old), and they are in what I would consider gently used condition. They have utensil marks/stacking marks in varying degrees - from almost none to quite a few. T is an occasional scratch. T is wear to the gold in varying degrees. It runs from minor to moderate. When you look at the pieces you can see that t is a gold band - it is not like some vintage pieces that just have a little gold w the trim used to be. However, t are some pieces with definite areas of gold wear. T are some tiny "skips" on the blue trim - the double thin line of the design. They are little areas without color. I don't know if this is due to manufacturing or from wear. Some of the pieces have crazing (not many) that varies. The plates have a bright and shiny finish, and the coloration is still intact. On the underside of most of the plates t are roundish areas that are unfinished (without the shiny finish). Because of its uniformity, I would say that these are from the manufacturing process. They feel like flakes, and even look like flakes. But upon closer inspection, they do look like they are from manufacturing. They are all on the underside and don't impact the pieces at all. T is an occasional pimple, dimple, or colored pinpoint marks which are from the manufacturing process. On some of the edges t is a cluster of pimples - I think that this is from the manufacturing because the gold trim is over it. I will try to be more specific on some of the pieces. If t is a chip or flea bites, I'll let you know below - I'll try to be as thorough as I can. THESE ARE LOVELY VINTAGE ITEMS - THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL BUT NOT PERFECT. ALL VINTAGE PIECES HAVE WEAR TO SOME DEGREE DEPENDING ON AGE AND USAGE . We would consider them in nice condition - especially when you consider age and delicacy.
