Lincoln's image appears on the obverse of each one-cent coin. The reverses reflect 4 different designs , each one representing a different aspect, or theme, of the life of President Lincoln: Birth and Early Childhood in Kentucky(1809-1816), Formative Years in Indiana(1816-1830), Professional Life in Illinois(1830-1861), and Presidency in Washington, D.C.(1861-1865). Each Lincoln one-cent has a composition of 95% copper, its original metal content when first introduced in 1909.
