Spode Imperial Plate of Persia Collector PlateBack of plate marked in gold The Imperial Plate of Persia with the approval of his Majesty Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Aryamehr Shahanshah of Iran. This plate has been produced in 1971 in a Limited edition of 10,000 to commemorate the 2500 Years of Persian Monarchy. Marked Spode England bone china. Diameter of plate is 10 1/2 inches (27cm) and the decoration is of 22 carat gold and rich enamels. The design is by Harold Holdway, Spode Art Director. Symbolizes the anniversary by representing the recent days of Persian Empire in center of the plate in the form of the coat of Arms of Pahlavi Dynasty and the origins of Empire in the border with a design inspired by Achaemenian art. This border is based upon cavetto cornices above the doorways of private place of Darius the Great at Persepolice and rests on rich ground of turquoises. It is completed by an outer border of the rosettes which were the most widely used of all Achaemenian symbols. They are no longer being made, can not be replaced. Should be cherished as a family heirloom in the future, are beautiful to behold, are beautifully made of the best quality materials, made by a company that is in business for hundreds of years.
