You are bidding on a Beautiful String of 26 Matching, Faceted, Transparent Cobalt-Blue, Bohemian Glass, African Trade Beads...from Mali, Africa...probably made and hand-faceted in Bohemia late 1800's to early 1900's and traded to African merchants (and reportedly to Russian Fur Traders as well) - these beads regardless of their name "Russian" came from Mali, Africa, and had little if anything to do with Russia...so 100+ year old African Trade Beads called "Faceted Russian Blues"...not able to tell if the flat surfaces (facets) that surround each bead were ground into the glass like a gemstone or formed in a mold while the glass was hot and pliable?...seller claimed they were hand-faceted like a gemstone but I have no way of verifying that claim... ...the Cobalt-Blue Faceted Russian Blues exhibit varying degrees of use-ware especially at the ends of beads where they rubbed against their neighbors...relatively well matched beads range in length from about 1" to 3/4"...diameters vary from 1/4" to 3/16"...Faceted Drawn Tube Beads strung on Rafia (twine made from the Raffia Palm)...26" linear length - 12" in length doubled...wearable - long enough to just fit over my head...transparent gemmy ultramarine-blue glass - a very beautiful String of Cobalt Blue Beads especially when backlit by direct sunlight (see pictures 10 - 12)... ...in read more
