Comments- A fantastic double oban print scene from the Tale of the 47 Ronin. One of the dramatic chapter illustrations well known from the Ronin tale and often illustrated by the 19th century artists. This scene reinterpreted by a Meiji era artist in a distinctly modernized design approach. A knockout, dramatic scene and excellent large format print to display. A unique Meiji era print utilizing a harder paper and glossy ink process that was popular for a time during the Meiji era. This produces a beautiful, richly colored and dramatic scene. Notice the difference in tonal quality and color saturation on this unique piece. Artist- Unsigned, Meiji era Image size- 18 1/2" x 13" + margins as shown Condition- Color and detail excellent. The print is not backed. Slightly spotted around margins, margins mostly, not serious (see photos). Slightly wrinkled at the edges in margin only.
