IN THIS AUCTION !WOW! Vintage Graniteware / Enamelware Coffee Biggin !WOW! Excellent condition, in fact I do not think it has ever been used, as the original paper label is still attached to the bottom, which you can see in one of the pix, I am not familiar with the mark.This is a double drip two level coffee pot, which means t are TWO white enamelware cylindrical wire strainers that hold the ground coffee to make it double drip, both of which are removable. If you have been looking you know that it is rare indeed to find an enamelware coffee biggin in this immaculate condition with both strainers intact. This is a two level pot, the top part of which holds the coffee grounds can be removed and then the bottom part can be used as a server, the lid fits both parts, for a total of 5 parts. Update 9/24/07: I originally thought and had posted that this was a French coffee biggin and that the French ones were introduced in 1930's and were popular until about 1964. I have since been advised that the biggin is actually an English coffeepot which was invented around 1800, and that the French version is usually simply known by the same name. I did a little more research after I received this email and have found biggins in the same style from Belgium and Denmark as well.
