Philmont Fund-raiser Several items have been donated to our Scout Troop and are being sold to raise funds to support our transportation costs of sending a group of Scouts to Philmont Scout Ranch in July 2013. Think road trip for 3 1/2 days each way..... If funds are raised beyond those needed for transportation, then scholarship assistance will be offered to help other Troop members join our Philmont group. This item is one of those donated. The net proceeds from the winning bid will go to the Troop for our fund-raising efforts. The ebay and paypal seller's fees will be subtracted from the winning bid, before funds are passed on to the Troop. Once I hear from the winning bidder that the item has arrived safely and they are satisfied, the net amount from the winning bid will be turned over to the Troop. The item offered in this auction is a vintage HO Scale 2-6-0 old time Mogul locomotive. I am advised that this is a early Kawai Model, produced in the 1950's. It is brightly painted in burgundy, yellow, black and grey. There is dust on the entire engine and some tarnish on the unpainted brass brite work. The paint job compliments the 2 Ambroid passenger cars that I have also listed. The model identification comes from a local brass collector, who found the model in one of his reference books . These may have been imported by Imperial between 1954 and 1959. Also by International in 1958. The engine has a tender mounted motor, which powers the drivers thru a flexible driveshaft that is sticking out the back of the cab. The flexible portion has stiffened. The front archbar truck on the tender is broken off and not present. There are paint chips on the engine. The engine alone weighs almost 8 ounces.... The tender alone weighs almost 5 ounces. There are no couplers mounted on the engine or tender nor evidence of any. The insulating drawbar between the engine and tender is present on the rear of the engine. I have put 12 vdc power to the one motor lead wire and the tender frame drawbar post. After turning the motor coupling by hand, I do get the motor to work slowly but it is very noisy. I suspect that the motor lube is all stiff from being stored over 3 decades and will need cleaning. The tender and lead truck wheels all turn freely. The driver axles all have movement. The tender is not marked. The tender rides on a 4 wheel sprung metal archbar truck.... It's twin has broken off and is missing. The trucks may not be original.... There is a drawbar pin under the front of the tender, pointing down towards the rails. The engine is part of a collection that was stored decades ago (possibly since about 1975) and has been donated by a member of the estate. There is no box. I am not familiar with brass engines and am not comfortable with digging deeper into the mechanism to investigate further on something that is not mine. The engine will be sold in as - is condition, it is not operational in it's present state. Please look carefully at the photos and bid accordingly. The engine has not been track tested. The piece of track is not included. The engine is dusty, from sitting around before being packed away decades ago. If you are looking for an engine to take out of the package and run nicely, this is not it. If you are looking for an engine that will need some parts and work and in fairly nice shape for it's age...to clean, lube and give a little TLC to... resulting in a probably very nicely running engine.. this is for you.
