Matchlessantiques is offering Smiths and Collectors this 8 Pound ATHA TOOL CO. Blacksmith Sledge Hammer. This sledge will do some serious work. It has a short hardwood handle that fits tightly. The sledge has the Atha Trademark, an "A" inside a horseshoe and is marked "8" for the weight. The face has some light pitting, but is in good condition. NOTE : The 218 lb. English Blacksmith Anvil IS NOT INCLUDED in this auction. The anvil is being offered in another auction. Atha Tool Co. has been said to have been making blacksmith tools as early as 1875. Atha was considered one of the three "major" blacksmith tool makers in business beginning before the turn of the 20th century. They were located in Newark, New Jersey. They were purchased / bought out by Stanley Rule & Level Co. in 1913, however Stanley retained their Trademark. They were well known for their quality and workmanship.
