Rare G.A.R. Grand Army of the Republic Lincoln Post, No. 4 Newark, N.J. in outstanding condition. Protected and Preserved beautifully. This is one from a collection of 11 ribbons, photos, epitaphs and flags belonging to Capt William B. Upton First Reigt, US Volunteer Duty as a member of the GAR and Loyal Legion.Examine the pictures closely to see and judge for yourself on the condition. Ribbon weights just over 1/2 ounce. The topper is stamped on the back "The Whitehead & Hoag Co" and on the front are mans hands shaking and below that is "Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, N.J." An American flag 13 stripes/13 stars is sewn into the top and the G.A.R. button hangs from it. The back of the button is also stamped Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, N.J. Badges.On the back of the Ribbon is stamped again Whitehead & Hoag Co. Badge Makers, Newark, N.J. and the cardboard at the bottom is sewn on. You can see the lower left corner below the stitching the cardboard has a slight tear. There is no yellowing, no water damage, no mildew/mold, no writing, nothing negative to this piece other than that slight tear. There is no rust to the metals, no fraying of the ribbon or gold toned tassels.Measurements: 7.25 x 2.
