This is a rarity, the� official publication on the Impeachment of Andrew Johnson published by the government. Vols 1 and 2...... Johnson was Abraham � Lincoln's vice President and was made president on Lincoln's assassination. Many of the names you see in the recent movie on Lincoln you will see in these pages. From� Thaddeus Stevens to all the way to U. S. Grant. � These were published in 1868 after the vote to convict lost by one vote. It is a fantastic piece of American history. � This event was one of the most important in the history of the United States. For it was struggle to over power the Executive Department by the� Legislative Department....Had this attempt been successful, the power of the President would have markedly diminished. � One can only guess how it would have been for Lincoln had he lived.....You can be sure there would have been attempts to unseat him as well........ The books are nearly 150 years old and are solid, but the outer covering is thin and peeling off here and there. ...These are really historic books and should be in the collection of a Civil War buff, historian, or even politician who wishes to see what can happen if power is unchecked......................These will be wrapped and packed carefully in a box. � � � �
