This is an unusually beautiful Navajo couple made by a Navajo woman in the likeness of her Navajo friends. The dolls wear the traditional clothing of the older Navajo. The woman has a soft shirt and long fabric feedsack skirt. Under her skirt is another printed cotton skirt. Her moccasins are wonderful - so nicely shaped and made with tiny stitches. On the front of her shirt is a tin endornment sewn on with the thread across the tin like it is on some of the old dolls. Her face is wonderful Facial features are drawn on her fabric face and a nose is sculpted with little stitches. Beads hang from her neck and ears. This doll's hair is real human hair and tied very nicely into a bun. The man doll has a soft shirt and fabric pants, blue trim on the outside legs. His moccasins are shaped and sewn the same as the woman's. Around his waist is an old tin belt. Beads hang from his neck and are also in his ears. The face matches the woman's with drawn facial features and a sculpted nose. The hair on this doll is real and a fabric headband is stitched in place. Right now in my doll collection, this is the nicest pair of Navajo dolls I have. Dolls of this age and quality are just not easily found - just an absolutely gorgeous pair - rich in appearance, artistry, and cultural history.
