1949 AC Gilbert #12 1/2 Erector Set, Master Builder Set, 1st Edition in Original Box. This was the largest set made by AC Gilbert, and is considered one of "the" sets as a "must own" by all serious Erector Set Collectors. The inside graphic reads "Builds the Mysterious Walking Giant", which appeared only on this first 1949 version. "Giant" was changed to the word "Robot" on subsequent versions. This set is largely intact and awaiting a full restoration. It is missing the instructions and a few other parts. The good news is that almost everything that is tough to get and unique to this set is still there! That includes the electric remote, the transmission motor that was unique to this set, all the White Truck parts, the wide trusses, and more. The rubber treads, like most, are long gone and missing. The unique 1949 inside "Walking Giant" graphic has a couple small tears along the bottom, but retains good color and displays absolutely super (see the pictures)! Most of the few other missing items are common with other sets and pretty easy to find. It would venture that this set is at least about 85% complete. I have included a bunch of pictures which should allow you get a good inventory what's there. The box is very, very solid, and both clasps are intact, but the exterior has a lot of surface rust and it would deserve a restoration. read more
