No chips, No cracks. These are some minor scratches around the bottom (Please refer to the last picture to check it.) Size Dia. max. 2.6"(6.7cm) x H 3.1"(7.8cm) Description of item This is a vintage Japanese lacquered wooden tea caddy with MAKIE work. This tea caddy is made of Natural wood and coated with high quality Japanese lacquer (Not Plastic one). Cherry blossoms are painted by the technique of MAKIE. This was made about 50 years ago. This style of the tea caddy is called "Natume". Maki-e is Japanese lacquer sprinkled with gold or silver powder as a decoration using a makizutsu or a kebo brush. The technique was developed mainly in the Heian Period (794-1185) and blossomed in the Edo Period (1603-1868). Maki-e objects were initially designed as household items for court nobles, they soon gained more popularity and were adopted by royal families and military leaders as an indication of power.
