RARE AIBOM VILLAGE POTTERY CHAMBRI LAKES MIDDLE SEPIK Pottery and ceramics from the Sepik are quite rare, especially when compared to the prolific wood-carving for which the area is renowned. This would be mainly due to the difficulty in exporting such fragile pieces. We are delighted to offer these fine examples from the remote Aibom Village, that is located on the shores of the exotic Chambri Lakes. Chambri (Tchambouli) is well known for it's distinctive bold graphic style. Each Pot is hand-made and then fired and painted with black oxides, red ochre and white clay. This one is a very nice example, featuring a Spirit face with a nose that is also a bird. It has a small crack that would have occurred as the clay dried during the firing process.
