Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. [born November 18, 1923 - died July 21, 1998] he was a Rear Admiral of the United States Navy, test pilot, second person in space and the fifth moon walker. He entered the the U.S Navy in 1944, and served on the destroyer USS Cogswell in the Pacific during world war II. In 1959, he was selected as one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts assigned to the Mercury program. On May 5, 1961, he piloted the Freedom 7, and became the first American to travel into space. Shortly before his launch, Shepard stated ''Please, dear God, don't let me *%!! up, This has since become known among aviators as ''Shepard's Prayer.'' [according to Gene Kranz]. In 1971, he was assigned as commander of Apollo 14 mission, and became the fifth man to walk on the moon. Alan Shepard died on July 21, 1998 at the age of 74. Listed for auction is a authentic vintage signed NASA lithograph of Alan Shepard. The photograph is a 8x10 satin finish portrait, and is dedicated and signed ''With warm regards Alan Shepard'' in blue pen. The lithograph has some tape remnants on the verso, light soiling on the white border around the photograph [trivial see scan] from previous mounting, but other wise in fine condition.
