Vtg Amber Ball Jar 1/2 Gallon Perfect Mason with Zinc Lid ~ 1933-1960 This is an outstanding RARE vintage amber Ball "Perfect Mason" 1/2-Gallon Jar. Amber is a rare color of the 1/2 gallon size. Most of the 1/2 gallon Ball jars are blue or clear. Below in bold are a question and answer from the following website: /~glassman/info/jarfaq.htm Are amber or olive green jars worth more and why? Yes, jars in amber, cornflower blue, olive green, etc. are worth more because fewer of them were made and they are in great demand by collectors. The amber jars were made that way as an attempt to keep fruit from turning brown. The amber glass kept out the harmful effect of light rays on the contents of the jar. However, the jars were less popular with homemakers because the contents were more difficult to see. The embossed "Ball" logo with the underlined open "B" indicates this jar was manufactured sometime between 1933 to 1960. "MADE IN U.S.A." is embossed on the backside base of the jar. The right side of the jar (as you are loooking at the front) is embossed with 2, 4, & 6-cup measurements along with 1, 2, & 3-pint measurements. The base of the jar shows 4 concentric rings and is marked G2. The jar sits 9 1/2" tall. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs to the jar whatsoever. It is in pristine condition!
