Up for auction is a n AMERICAN FLY ER S gauge # 960 red stripe C OLUMBUS combine . Th is car came to us from an American Flyer collector a s a set t hat also includes 4 red striped passen ger cars and a Santa Fe A-B-A d iesel set . In general I do not like to break-up sets and offer them as individual pieces here on Ebay . B ut in this instance I believe the "set" was cobbled together f rom indi vidual components that do n ot necessarily match in terms of c ondition , so I am offering the A-B-A set as a single unit and each of the passenger cars separately. Of the four cars I am offering I believe this com bine is the nicest cars. As may be seen in the photos it is bright and clean with very few marks on the roof or sides of the cars. The red strip es are solid and the CO LUMBUS name pl ates are firmly attached and flat. The window inserts are clean and firmly attached and t he car has good working trucks and couplers. However I have shown clo se-up photos of each of the trucks in the fifth and sixth photos because I be lieve the couplers have been rep laced. I f you look closely at the photos you will notice marks where it appears needle nose pliers were used t o cr imp the b racket closed wit hout covering the jaws to reduce the chance of marking the metal. Still, since you need to t urn the car over to see it and since most of us run our trains right side up, this s hould not keep you fr om bidding on a car that may very well help you upgrade your current set of red str ipe cars. By the way, the car will be packed in the yellow and blue American Flyer passenger car box used in the pictures. However, there are no flaps on the end of the box that should have the rubber sta mped identification. So it is really more like a generic box.
