MY OTHER EBAY LISTINGSAmerican Folk Art Charcoal & Marble Dust Drawing-Hudson River Landscape 19th C. Nicely executed American folk art drawing. Mid 19th century. Charcoal and marble dust on paper, laid down. Framed with the original old waved glass in place. An expansive nocturnal view of the Hudson River Valley, complete with figures, sailboats, castles, mountains and trees, all in the light of the full moon, partially hidden by clouds. Although hard to see in the photographs, the surface of the image sparkles with the reflections of tiny particles of marble dust mixed in with the charcoal. This charcoal drawing probably dates to the 1850's - 1870's and is quite a bit more animated than other examples done in the Hudson River School folk art style. Although unsigned, it was likely done by a professional artist and has the influences of a European schooling evident. DRAWING : 10" x 15" FRAME : 15 1/2" x 20 1/2"CONDITION : Excellent condition as shown in the photographs. Frame is possibly original and shows a darkened patina and wear to the gold surface. The mat is newer and was added to keep the drawing away from the glass. The glass is very old and shows ripples, wave, and elongated bubbles. This piece will be a quality addition to any collection of American Folk Art and will display beautifully in any decor: Classical, Neo-Classical, read more
