Up for bid is an American Models S gauge GP9/18 Undecorated kit. Well, this one is kind of a mixed bag; on the one hand, the shell and all detail parts are mint and present (2 - 48" cooling fan hatches, 2 - 36" fan hatches, a couple of dynamic brake fan choices, horn, two styles of intake grills, etc.), on the other, the chassis needs some work. Looks like this was originally a DC scale loco that has had an electronic reverse added. The rear truck has scale wheels and is connected to the motor using the factory supplied universals, as it's supposed to, and runs great... smooth and quiet. The reverse unit cycles properly. Here's the problem. The front truck is empty, no gears, no worm, no universals, incorrect wheels. Those incorrect wheels flop around in the truck frame and cause shorts so I was only able to test the unit with the front truck off the rails. Not sure what the plan was for this engine, I bought it this way, but simply lost interest in doing anything with it as my S gauge interests are focused on vintage American Flyer. You could simply order up a pair of scale wheelsets from American Models ($5.95ea), yank the reverse unit and make it a 4 wheel powered scale unit or swap all four wheelsets for hi rail, again 4 wheel powered or see if AM can provide a replacement front truck and go back to 8 wheel drive.
