This a fine faceted amethyst bead which was part of an Egyptian necklace dating to the New Kingdom period, C.1550-1300 BC. That makes these about 3500 years old. This one measures about .56”(14.3mm) . Pierced with a small hole because they were strung on gold wire originally. A similar necklace is shown in Jewelry Through 7000 Years (British Museum publication) on page 59. When we bought it, the necklace was incomplete and we are selling the beads individually. They come with certification of authenticity and make a beautiful thoughtful gift.Amethyst is one of our oldest recorded gemstones.
