I cameacross an old manila folder full of Antique deeds, documents and other ephemera at an Antique Market. Among them I found this Land Grant from 1834 signed by Andrew Jackson as President and by Elijah Hayward as Commissioner of the General Land Office. Elijah Hayward was Commissioner of the General Land Office from 1830 to 1835. Jackson is granting 39 acres of land in Dearborn County, Indiana to a Henry Collins. ”According to the provisions of the Act of Congress of the 24th of April 1820”. On Vellum paper this document is in good shape considering it is 177 years old! It is soiled with typical folds but it only has a few tiny holes and tears. The writing is a tad light but still legible, unfortunately the seal is no longer on the document. There are also two hand-written Deeds. One from a Thomas & Delia Douglas to Henry Collins dated 1826. “Recorded in the Record of Deeds for Dearborn County in Book A pages 315, 316 & 317 the 22nd of December, 1826”. Again, soiled with typical folds and stains and the writing is a tad light but still legible. It has a couple of tears along the folds but is still intact. The other deed is also dated the 22nd of December 1826. It is from a Samuel & Sarah Mosley to Henry Collins. “Recorded in the Record of Deeds for Dearborn County in Book A pages 317, 318 & 319 the 22nd of December, read more
