Circa 1850 Stunning Oval Portrait on Porcelain This exquisitely painted and handsome wall plaque is a portrait of nobility, posed in his royal garments, with his hand on the hilt of his sword. The hand painting is phenomenal, with many brush stroke details obvious at an angle to the light. The colors are absolutely brilliant still. The gilding, likewise is in excellent condition. Normally I remove metal plate hangers and throw the dastardly things away, but have not touched this one. It looks to have been made specifically for this plate, and has it's own French markings. The hanger includes a wire that allows the plate to drop an additional 8 inches from the nail. This is an outstanding heirloom quality piece, signed by the artist in the lower right, J.B. Measurements in inches: 13.5 x 7.5Condition: A few light handling marks. Marked: Hippolyte BouIenger's impressed banner reads Choisy. Artist signed J.B. She was an avid and extremely knowledgeable collector and was the host of an Antiques Roadshow-type radio program decades ago, giving advice and information to callers.
