Up for auction is a very RARE and authentic antique music box. A 19th Century Circa 1870's Swiss made cylinder music box. A large one in a beautiful original wooden case with inlay banding around it and a musical picture painted on the top with an instrument etc. It is an 8 tune or air box which can play 8 different songs. The songs are listed on the inside of the lid on the original paper label there. It has a 3 visible bell design. With just that 3 working bells on the inside. It has a crank handle on the left and on the right it has a stop and start switch as well as a switch which allows the cylindar to switch to different songs each time it's makes a full rotation. Or can be set to play whatever song it is currently on over and over. It is in currently non working condition. The parts are all there as far as I an tell. And it wants to work. I am far from an expert in these things. But from seeing and dealing with them in the past. I don't think there is much to fix this one. It appears that all gears and parts are intact. The comb has all teeth. The bells look great. And all parts move. What is happening is this. When you swing the arm forward to wind it up. Instead of the cylinder staying still so you can wind the spring and put tention on it. The cylinder does not stay locked in place and it spins while you spin the wind arm. read more
