Albion Antiek Antique Pottery ABC Plate Railway Scene Transferware Staffordshire This listing is for a beautiful antique ABC (alphabet) pottery plate. This plate is transfer printed in black showing a scene of a train going through a landscape, the lettering along the edge is hand colored in different colors and the outer rim is trimmed in underglaze blue. The middle wagon carries the initials "GJRW". This plate dates to ca. 1830's and is not marked but was probably made in Staffordshire (England). This plate measures just under 7-1/2" across (18,9 cm). There are two chips on the edge of the plate (near letter E and G) and there is a tiny hairline between Z and A (see close-up pictures). Apart from that it is fine: no other chips or cracks and no repairs or restoration. There is crazing of the glaze and some general wear from age, but in all this is a very attractive plate that displays beautifully! Please excuse any glares (white patches) that you may see in the pictures, these are caused by reflections of light on the glaze and are not on the actual object itself.
