ANTIQUE CAST IRON BUFFALO COIN BANK ORIGINAL RED PAINT Description: Antique decorator cast Iron figural child's coin bank in the shape of a Buffalo. About 3" tall x 4 1/8" long x 1 1/2" wide. These were used in a bygone time to help kids save their pennies, nickles and dimes in a time when coins actually had value; especially to child who had the opportunity to go to a penny candy store. There is an original screw that holds the two pieces of together, that (supposedly) only an adult could open, and the coin slot is at the base of the neck. I have not attempted to unscrew this screw as it is original, and has not been touced in decades. Most of the original red paint survives, creating a charming and eye appealing wear pattern from actual use over decades and decades. I have also seen these in gold paint, but I believe the red is scarcer. Overall in excellent, untouched condition that collectors love to see. This would be a wonderful gift for any child who loves animals; especially a young child to help them manage their "finances", as a keepsake, or to help them to begin collecting. This would be perfect as a decorator, desk accessory, or conversation piece in any bank, Buffalo, Old West, Western, or coin collection / display, or as a child's gift. Weight is 14.7 ounces.
