F. Monroe Company of Meriden, CT. This glass decorating studio was in operation from 1882 to 1916.This piece is adorned with a beautiful painted and enameled design. It has the swirl design molded into the cover and the sides. The cover and base are edged with decorative ribbed brass bands. The hinge in back is tight, and the box opens and closes correctly. The clasp in front holds the box securely shut. There are no chips or cracks in this piece. The brass is still shiny. The original silk lining is all intact and in excellent condition, which is hard to find in boxes of this age.This measures 5 ½" wide and 3 ½" high. The brass rings are 4 ½" in diameter. This is not marked. Monroe himself, however, believed his glass spoke for itself and needed no signature.This originally belonged to our niece's great-grandmother, then grandmother and has been lovingly kept in this same family all these years.A little history . . .Decorated Opal ware was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910, and the C.
