A good antique part tea service IMHO Staffordshire pearlware made in England circa 1780 - 1790. The set is decorated with a Batavia ware (= a Chinese porcelain type popular in the 18th century) style decoration. It comprises a tea canister, milk jug, a sugar bowl with cover and three cups and saucers (10 pieces in all, counting the lid). Unfortunately t is no teapot with the set. Some pieces are marked with what looks like an X. I have found a similar pearlware jug / pitcher of this particular (Chinese Batavia Ware porcelain inspired) type in the ( American ) Chipstone Collection, see amongst others the following link): /publications/CIA/2001/Hume/SmWin/27hsw.html The service is made of a lightweight white-grey colored earthenware with a light blue glaze. It has been hand painted (not transfer printed) in underglaze blue with flowers and sprigs within cartouches spared out in the brown slip that was used to decorate the outside skin of the service, thus creating a wonderful effect (please see photo 11). The pieces have blue borders in a Chinese style painted on the white inner rims - the border on the milk jug is slightly different to that of the other pieces. The handle of the milk jug and the handles of the sugar bowl are double twisted flat handles with an embossed leafy terminal. This type of handle was often (but not exclusively) read more
