Here is a freeblown fly or wasp trap dating from the Victorian era. FreeBlown (without a mould) by a local artisan glassblower, the three feet and the re-inforcing rim to the lip were added whist the body was still hot and held on the blowpipe. The lip, subsequently exhibiting the roughness where the blowpipe was detached, was then cold ground to remove the sharp edges. Air bubbles in the glass attest to the age of this piece. These traps were placed on horizontal surfaces, tables, windowsills etc., were partially filled with water and some jam or sugar to attract wasps and flies, which once entered the trap can not escape, and eventually drown. No crueller than the nasty chemical solutions of our modern "civilised" world. They work surprisingly well, I have tried them. Organic, environmentally friendly, green....practical and collectable. Condition - Excellent - Absoluteley no chips or cracks. Height 6.8" or 17.5 cms. Weight 420g; Offered without reserve, and low start price, so feel free to have a go. Postage to UK & Europe From France (at cost) in secure packaging by priority airmail £12.00, to rest of world £16.. Combined shipping for multiple purchases. I accept paypal, bank transfer in euros or cheque in euros drawn on a French bank. See my other listings of glass and other antique items, listed on ebay UK, USA and France, read more
