ANTIQUE FULL SET 32 HAND TURNED WOODEN FRENCH REGENCY STYLE CHESS PIECES W BOXThis listing is for a full set of 32 antique hand turned wooden French Regency style chess pieces and a handsome box. Believe this set is from the late 1800's to early 1900's. There are 16 black pieces and 16 light natural wood pieces. The group consists of 2 Kings, 2 Queens, 4 Knights, 4 Bishops, 4 Rooks and 16 Pawns. The box is very interesting as there is a hand drawn sketch of a knight on the outside of the lid (see image).Box measures approx. 6 7/8" x 3 3/4" x 2 1/4". Since these pieces are all hand turned the measurements are approximate and a few vary very slightly - Queen is 2 3/4" tall, King is 2 3/8", Knights 2", Bishops 2", Rooks 1 3/8" and the Pawns are 1 1/4". All pieces are unlined on the bottom.Chess pieces are smooth, well turned, unvarnished, and nicely detailed.In good antique condition. A few pieces have minor damage (see labeled images). The black knights are 2 different sizes (see image). The lid has a long tight age crack (see image). The box is well worn and very old with a small missing piece on the edge and is fully dovetailed.
