Up for auction today I have a doll that is made by the German dollmaker, Armand Marseille. This is the shoulderhead named "Mabel" in the large 20 inch size with a pin-jointed leather body and bisque lower arms and hands. She wears an old lavender-colored gauzy dress and slip from the same era. The doll stands approximately 20 inches tall with a bisque shoulderhead and a pin-jointed leather body. She has green glass sleep eyes with eyelids mostly intact, single-stroke brows and four teeth in her open mouth as well as a synthetic (dynel) dark brown wig .The bisque shoulder head is clearly marked: Germany Mabel 6/0' (see photo of back of head). She has painted upper and lower lashes. Her eyebrows are single-stroked. She has sweet pink plump cheeks and open mouth with four teeth showing. She has big green glass sleep style eyes with the eyelids mostly intact, and her original synthetic dark brown wig with lavender silk flowers at her temple. I HAVE LIT HER HEAD AND CAN FIND NO CRACKS. There is a tiny chip in her right eye socket, which looks like it's been painted over so it's probably original to the doll. She does have a black "beauty mark" on her cheek that is from the wood ash used during her original firing. There is a very slight rub on her right cheek near the beauty mark, on the tip of her nose, and on her left eyebrow.Any lines you might see in the photos are from stray wig hairs. Her eyes do seem a little cross-eyed, so her eyes may need to be adjusted. She has her original pin-jointed leather body with bisque lower arms and hands and cloth lower legs/feet. The body is in overall good condition but the one lower leg has been recovered and the other leg has a couple tiny leaks.There are also patches at the pin-joint of both upper arms. She does have the usual wear and tear for a doll of this age (100+ years old). She wears antique lavender-colored gauzy cotton dress with matching underskirt. The dress has a dark purple attached ribbon waistband that ties in the back. There are gathered ruffles at each cuff and around the neck. The dress and underskirt tie closed. She also has white knit stockings and modern vinyl shoes. She is missing her undergarments and original shoes. I have put a low reserve on her. I made an exceptional deal on this doll and I'm passing the savings on to my buyers. As I said in my other listing, I am selling several dolls to raise money to pay medical bills. I have been recently diagnosed with a progressive, debilitating disease and the medicines and medical visits are very costly. So I'm passing a few of my little beauties on to new owners. Although I have been collecting dolls for over 20 years, I do not consider myself an expert. I do my best to check reference sources before listing any doll and try to describe any flaws I may see.
