Offered for your consideration is this Antique Brass Hotel ELEVATOR sign. This sign hung in the "HOTEL ENGLISH AND OPERA HOUSE" from downtown Indianapolis Indiana 1880 - 1948. This once proud attraction was located on the monument circle which, anyone from Indianapolis knows is the exact center of the city and the exact center of the state. Indianapolis was designed as a wheel with monument circle being the hub and all the streets were the spokes. Below is an article I found on "HOTEL ENGLISH AND OPERA HOUSE" if you have a little time to read please This sign is amazing and is a true testament to the quality and class the the Hotel English was. It is constructed of solid brass, with brass hardware and even the original brass hanging chain. The interior workings are also a testament to the quality of product that was produced in the early 1900's. The ballast is a porcelain finished ballast. The plug is in the style of the old brown plugs seen throughout the early 1900's. This sign is double sided with a glass pane on each side that reads "ELEVATOR". The "ELEVATOR" signs are constructed of glass. The word "ELEVATOR" is actually molded or embossed into the glass. Overall this sign is in pretty good condition for being approximately a century old.
