Very fine & large antique Japanese bronze bonsai planter from the Edo/Tokugawa period, signed, circa 1780 . Very fine oversize antique Japanese bronze bonsai planter circa 1780, this large planter having an overhanging lip with a broad band of incised decoration with engraved sworls and scrolls to the background. At each end is a highly stylized animalistic handle modeled as an elephants head, the planter standing on four bracket feet with engraved scrolls, the planter signed to the base in Japanese characters. This planter is unusally large at ; 20 " (51cm) wide x 12" deep (30.5cm) x 5.5" (14cm) wide & weighs about 25lbs (12 kilos), condition is fantastic you will not see one better than this, the patina of the bronze is beautiful.
