ANTIQUE JAPANESE CARD/CIGAR CASE This beautiful antique Japanese case is finely constructed of a material that looks very much like a particular type of shell with lacquered birds decorating the front and back of the outer sleeve case. Please look carefully at all the pictures. The outer sleeve of the case is decorated with a gold lacquered bird in flight on one side and a gold lacquered bird perched on a tree branch on the other. In the background on both sides are finely sketched delicate grasses and graceful reeds. The outer case is light gold or beige color. Its top is a very dark brown or black with an alternating diagonal pattern in gold lacquer. The gold diagonal stripes also runs down each side of the outer case. The bottom edge of the outer case is straight around each side and carved into a scalloped or arched design at the front and back of the case. The bottom half of the inside case is the same light gold color as the outer case. The very bottom has the same diagonal design as the top of the outer case. The top half of the inside case is dark brown or black. The inside case has a rough glue spot from an old sticker of some kind. I haven't tried to clean it off. It also has some long scratches caused by the bottom edge of the outer case moving against it as it's open and shut. Both case sections are in very good antique condition with no chips, cracks or losses. The scratches are the only issue I see. In very good antique condition, this handsome case can be used for cigars, cards, display or whatever your pleasure. The cases slide together very nicely. The scratches on the inside case look like they were caused by the bottom pointed edge of the scallop design on the front and back. Condition: Very good antique with normal wear for its age. I don't find cracks, chips or other losses besides the scratches already mentioned. The lacquer is in very good condition.
